On Saturday 14 June approximately 50 people attended the ‘Dressy Drinks’ fundraising event. This was held at the home of Mrs. Jean Cumming in Heathcote Valley to benefit the St Mary’s Village Hall Renovation Project. The event had been very successful last year so the organizers varied little on what had been a winning combination previously.

Entertainment was by accomplished pianist Anna Whitaker, who also proved to be a superb vocalist. She entertained us all with a solo performance by popular demand at the end of the evening. The food was a varied selection of sweet and savoury hors d’oeuvres which were principally created by the Project Team, most of who, amongst their many talents, share a love of good food!

The highlight of the evening was probably the silent (or not so silent!) auction. A number of people had donated items, including Anita Armstrong from Valley Beauty, the Rickerby family and Valerie Breen, a massage therapist in Linwood. A bidding war quickly developed over the evening with a Christmas cake connoisseur paying $125 for a beautifully decorated Christmas cake. The real excitement happened when two groups commenced bidding for a '3 course dinner for 10'. The bidding swung back and forth between the two groups until finally the auction was won by Wayne and Trisha Macefield with a bid of $880! They will enjoy their dinner later in the year.

It is incredibly generous of Jean to donate her home for the event, as it really is the perfect venue. After hosting the evening for two years now, the Project Team had considered that this would be the last event of its type, however all feedback suggests that those who attended are keen on a repeat next year. Watch this space! The St Mary’s Village Hall Renovation Project benefited by $3275 from the proceeds of the evening – a great result, and many thanks to all who attended.
